The Final Tour of Kırkdilim

The BMW S 1000 RR was initially developed for the BMW Motorrad team to continue its legacy in the World Superbike Championship. Since its commercial debut in 2010, it has become the benchmark for cornering performance in its class. In 2024, BMW Motorrad introduced the latest generation of the S 1000 RR, now more refined and engineered for pure performance, especially in cornering.

At BMW Motorrad Türkiye, we wanted to showcase the groundbreaking cornering capabilities of the new BMW S 1000 RR on a road that would truly test its limits. A standard track or highway wouldn’t suffice. Instead, we chose one of Türkiye’s most treacherous and winding roads—Kırkdilim Pass, located on the Çorum-Osmancık route. This road, named after its 40 perilous curves, was on the verge of closure due to the construction of new tunnels. It was the perfect location for a final ride before it will be closed forever.

Kırkdilim Pass has long been infamous for its deadly turns, landslides, and difficult driving conditions. A tunnel project was first proposed in 1979 to provide a safer alternative, but political and administrative delays kept it on hold for over 40 years. With the recent completion of three massive tunnels, the most dangerous section of Kırkdilim was set to be decommissioned. For us, this presented a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to document the ultimate ride before the legendary road was lost to time.

First, we identified the most dangerous and technically demanding section of Kırkdilim using historical accident data and road statistics. To safely and skillfully push the limits of the new S 1000 RR, we enlisted a former BMW Motorrad racing pilot.

With the
BMW Motorrad Connected App, developed by BMW, we recorded key performance data in real time, including distance, altitude, speed, and lean angles, synchronizing them seamlessly throughout the ride.

We then mapped these data points precisely to the curves of Kırkdilim, creating an interactive, data-driven visualization of the ride. This information was transformed into an immersive web experience, published under BMW Motorrad Turkey’s official domain as the Kırkdilim Ride Data Map.

KIRKDİLİM: The Final Tour Film

Alongside this, we produced a 4-minute and 40-second film that blended archival footage of Kırkdilim with our final tour, showcasing the breathtaking journey in its entirety. The film was distributed across all digital platforms.

How did we record the riding data?

The BMW Motorrad Connected App transforms every kilometer into a unique riding experience. It seamlessly records key performance metrics in real-time, including distance, altitude, speed, and lean angle, ensuring a synchronized and immersive ride.

The campaign garnered immense interest from motorcycle enthusiasts online!

News coverage in both local and national media introduced many people to Kırkdilim Pass for the first time, and social media was flooded with messages of pride from residents who felt honored that BMW Motorrad Türkiye had immortalized their historic road.
Even during the filming process, two riders from competing brands visited our stand and requested offers for the new S 1000 RR, highlighting the impact of the campaign beyond just brand awareness.

Most importantly, before Kırkdilim Pass was closed forever, BMW Motorrad Türkiye ensured that the S 1000 RR left its mark on history, turning the road’s final ride into a lasting memory for all motorcycle enthusiasts.
